There's a rumour so I'm told,
That this year Spofforth may get gold.
If it's right and so it seems,
All credit's due to our great team.
Who's out working in every weather?
Our zealous, helpful, lovely Heather.
What inspiration drives us on?
Of course, our clever Chairman, John.
Quietly round the streets proceeding,
You'll see Douglas; staining; weeding.
Ian's lawns are smooth and neat,
It's his garden; Castle Street.
The Richman's garden and the rest,
We know the Judges were impressed.
There's several Johns.
Geoff, Mike and Joan,
Who's treasured for her cakes alone.
For all the work that they put in,
We must remember Dave and Lynn.
Meticulously planning still,
Mrs Chilton, known as Hil.
There's Dave and Wendy and Annette,
Watsons, Roberts, watering yet.
Di, Don and Judy, Julie too.
They all know there's much to do.
Janet, Rosie, Ruth and Barry,
Sophie, Charlotte, Carl and Gary
Susannah, Helen and Neil Greer,
Watering, planting all the year.
And if there's those I didn't mention,
That was never my intention.
For all the village, young and old,
Have done their best to get us gold.
And, if alas, it's not to be,
Spofforths a grand community.
